Webinar: Preparing for a Scottish Parliament election

SCVO, along with OSCR and the Electoral Commission, are hosting a free online webinar to help voluntary sector organisations prepare for the upcoming Scottish Parliament elections.

Voluntary sector organisations play a pivotal role in the electoral landscape, organising campaigns and ensuring the communities they serve are well-informed and prepared to exercise their right to vote. If your charity plans to take part in any political campaigning or activities, it's important to understand how this relates to the charity test, your charitable purposes and your charity trustee duties.

Preparing for a Scottish Parliament election

  • Time: 10 - 11.30am

OSCR recognises that many charities carry out campaigning activity and seek to engage with politicians at a local level or more widely, both at election time and throughout the year. We'll talk you through some of the key points in our guidance during the webinar.

You'll also find out more about how you can campaign with confidence, while adhering to both charity law and electoral law.

This free, online event will be hosted by SCVO's Policy Team, and you'll also hear from:

  • Steve Kent, Policy Manager, Policy and Sector Improvement (OSCR)
  • Kelsey Gillies, Senior Officer Regulation & Campaigning in Scotland (The Electoral Commission)
  • Sam Nicholson, Senior Advisor, Regulatory Guidance (The Electoral Commission)
  • Moya Marshall, Senior Advisor, Regulatory Support (The Electoral Commission)

The webinar will also include a Q&A to answer some of your questions about political campaigning.
