Webinar – Getting your charity accounts right: A guide for smaller charities

Every year, each charity registered in Scotland must send us an online annual return, along with annual accounts, a Trustees’ Annual Report and an external scrutiny report. This is a legal requirement, and charities must send this information to us within 9 months of their financial year-end date.

To help smaller charities get this right, we’re hosting a webinar led by OSCR’s accounting experts. We’ll explain what to include (and what not to include) in your accounts, with clear examples tailored for small charities.

We’ll also cover important upcoming changes to how accounts are published on the Scottish Charity Register. From early 2026 (exact date to be confirmed), OSCR will begin publishing annual reports and accounts in full, without any changes, for every charity as soon as they are submitted. Unlike the previous approach, where only some accounts are published and personal details are redacted, OSCR will no longer remove any information from these documents. This makes it more important than ever to ensure your accounts are carefully prepared and reviewed before submission.

Join us to learn more about:

  • What compliant accounts look like for smaller charities, including:
    • Trustees’ Annual Report
    • Receipts and Payments accounts
    • Statement of Balances
    • Independent Examiner’s Report
  • Publication of all accounts on the Scottish Charity Register
  • Exemption of charity trustee details being published on the Scottish Charity Register
  • Q&A with OSCR’s accounting experts

Whether you’re new to charity finance or looking for a refresher, join our upcoming webinar designed specifically for small charities.

Please submit your questions for the Q&A in advance via the sign-up form to help us answer as many questions as possible during the webinar.
