On 26 August 2025, the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) published the findings of its inquiry into the Clan Donald Lands Trust (SC007862), following the charity trustees’ decision to sell significant landholdings on the open market.
The inquiry, opened in April 2025, focused on the trustees’ decision‑making processes and the wider financial context. OSCR found that the trustees acted within their legal powers and had taken appropriate professional advice. As a result, OSCR did not intervene and the inquiry was closed.
Today, 15 January 2026, OSCR has published an updated version of this report. Given the high level of ongoing public interest, OSCR considers it important to provide additional detail to support public understanding of the work undertaken, and the context behind the charity’s recent decisions.
