Robin Strang appointed as Deputy Chair of the Board of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)

The Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government, Ms Somerville has announced the appointment of Robin Strang as Deputy Chair of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) for the period 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2030.

Robin Strang

Robin Strang has extensive experience working within the public and charity sectors. Between 2008 and 2019 he was Chief Executive of charities in Scotland and England with the purpose of improving people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing. He is currently a Trustee of EPIC Assist Scotland and a board member of Scottish Canals. Prior to that he was Chair of Community Leisure Scotland, a Non-Executive Director of Sportscotland’s Trust Company and a Justice of the Peace in the Lothian and Borders Sheriffdom. Robin brings experience of managing charities, charity governance and working within a complex regulatory framework to the Board of OSCR.

Reappointment

Following reappointment as a member of the OSCR Board in November 2025, Robin Strang has now been formally appointed by the Cabinet Secretary to act as Deputy Chair for the period 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2030.

The appointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

Robin Strang will receive an uplift in remuneration for his role as Deputy Chair from 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2030, at a rate of £240.94 per day, based on a time commitment of up to three days per month (36 days per year).

Other ministerial appointments

Robin Strang is a Member of Scottish Canals, for which he receive remuneration of £240 per day, for a time commitment of 20 days per year.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Robin Strang has not undertaken any political activity within the last five years.
