Last week, we introduced new requirements for charity trustee information as part of the Charities (Regulation and Administration) (Scotland) Act 2023. These changes aim to strengthen transparency and accountability across the sector.
You can find full details about why this information is being collected, and what your charity will need to provide, on our website.
Charities can only submit trustee information using OSCR Online through one of their designated OSCR Online charity users. Any charity completing a new online annual return created on or after 30 June 2025, will be required to include charity trustee information as part of the submission. While this requirement does not apply to online annual returns created before 30 June 2025, we’d like to strongly encourage all Scottish charities to provide charity trustee details as soon as possible to ensure their compliance with the new legislation.
We have created guidance to help you manage charity trustee information in OSCR Online, including several how-to video tutorials showing how to add, edit and remove charity trustees.
Scottish charities can have up to three charity users in OSCR Online. Charity users should log in and upload the details for all charity trustees in the organisation.
This short video tutorial explains how to add a new charity trustee in OSCR Online:
If you need to edit a charity trustee's details, for example to update their address or phone number, you can do this in the Manage Charity Trustees section in OSCR Online.
The video below explains how to edit the details of a charity trustee within OSCR Online:
You should remove a charity trustee if they are no longer a trustee for your charity, for example if they have stepped down. They will be removed from your list of current charity trustees and their name will be recorded in the "Former Charity Trustees" section.
