Once you’ve created your charity trustee role description, the next step is to create an advert that communicates the position and put it somewhere that will be most likely to attract the attention of the applicants you are seeking.
The type of advertising you use will depend on the size and resources of your charity. If you are advertising externally, your advert could include:
- information about the charity’s work
- a role description
- the time commitment and frequency of meetings.
- any training or induction provided
- how to apply.
Any advert should go where your target audience is most likely to see the opportunity. Consider a mix of the following:
- Online platforms: such as your charity’s website and social media channels, or recruitment websites.
- Send the advert to stakeholders like your local TSI or umbrella body who may be able to promote it to their membership and/or mailing lists.
- Community spaces: such as local libraries, community centres, or notice boards.
- Printed media: such as local newspapers, newsletters, or posters.
- Word of mouth: you could ask current trustees, staff, or volunteers to share the opportunity in their networks.
