This section outlines the steps you need to take to ensure that the information OSCR holds is accurate and that the charity trustee has the knowledge they need to carry out their role effectively.

Every charity trustee should be fully informed of their duties and responsibilities. They should also receive appropriate support and guidance throughout their term. An induction process does not need to be complex, it should be appropriate and relevant to your charity.

You should ensure that all new charity trustees receive a copy of the charity’s governing document. They should also be given the opportunity to meet with current trustees to help them fully understand both the role and the work of the charity.

Where possible, new trustees should be offered the chance to undertake training that is appropriate to their role and relevant to the charity’s activities.

All charity trustees should read OSCR’s Guidance and Good Practice for charity trustees.
