(a) To provide temporary refuge for women and their children (if any) where the women have suffered abuse (mental, physical or sexual) in their home or within a relationship with a partner or family. (b) To offer support, information and help to any women and their children (if any) who ask for such help whether or not they are refuge residents and also to offer support and information to any women and children who have left a temporary refuge. (c) To encourage these women to determine their own futures. (d) To provide the opportunities for the educational and emotional needs of the children (if any) to be met, particularly those resident in refuges. (e) To encourage statutory authorities and other agencies to recognise their obligations, legal and otherwise, towards abused women and their children (if any) and to act accordingly towards the prevention of abuse and the relief of suffering. (f) Mindful of the fact that abuse - mental, physical, sexual - is the result of the position of women in society, to promote education and to inform the community and their representatives with respect to the abuse of women and its prevention. (g) To encourage research into the causes, the prevention and relief of such suffering and abuse. (h) To encourage such training both for ourselves and others as will best meet the objectives of the group. (i) To do all other things as will properly attain the above purposes.

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
