The Trustees shall hold the Trust Fund and the income of it to pay and apply the same to or for the benefit of or in furtherance of the following purposes:- (i) the advancement of culture and heritage, in particular (but without prejudice to the generality) through the preservation and maintenance of the historic building known as Cowane's Hospital, 49 St John Street, Stirling ('Cowane's Hospital' and of its surrounding gardens and policies for the benefit of the public; (ii) the advancement of education about Cowane's Hospital, its history and its role in the wider history of Stirling, and about the late John Cowane who first established Cowane's Hospital in 1637; (iii) in recognition of the historic role and purpose of Cowane's Hospital as set down by the late John Cowane in the seventeenth century, the provision of housing to those in need by reason of age, infirmity, disability or financial or other disadvantage; and (iv) to promote such similar charitable purposes or institutions and in such proportions and manner as the Trustees shall think fit.

From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.
