Purposes 4. The organisation's purposes include but are not limited to, to promote the following charitable purposes within the Seatown area of Gamrie and its immediate environs, for the public benefit: 4A. Public Benefit The Organisation shall carry out its activities for the benefit of the public. In pursuing its charitable purposes, the Organisation shall seek to benefit visitors, residents and all those who enjoy, access or have an interest in the heritage, culture, environment and community life of Seatown, Gardenstown and its immediate environs. Any private benefit arising from the Organisation's activities shall be incidental to and necessary for, the achievement of its charitable purposes and shall not be a primary purpose of the Organisation. 4.1 The Advancement of Environmental Protection and Improvement • To protect, conserve and improve the physical, natural and historic environment of Seatown, Gardenstown and its immediate environs for the benefit of the public, tourists, residents and all those who enjoy, access or have an interest in the heritage, culture and environment of the area. • To promote biodiversity, environmental stewardship and the enhancement of green spaces, public amenity areas and publicly accessible paths. • To support initiatives which improve the appearance, sustainability and resilience of the local environment. • To encourage responsible management and enjoyment of the area's natural and built environment. 4.2 The Advancement of Heritage, Arts and Culture • To preserve, promote and celebrate the historic, architectural, maritime and cultural heritage of Seatown and Gardenstown. • To promote the preservation, appreciation, understanding of the unique historic character and significance of the Seatown area as an important part of Scotland's coastal heritage. • To support local artists, writers, musicians, poets and creative practitioners in ways that contribute to the cultural life of the community. • To encourage the integration of art, culture and heritage within the local environment. • To support, promote and assist in the organisation and delivery of community arts, cultural and heritage events, exhibitions, open studios, festivals, performances and creative activities for the benefit of residents, visitors and the wider public which will enhance community life and contribute to the visitor economy. • To support and promote the annual Seatown Arts Week, Open Studios and associated cultural events, together with any successor or related events which celebrate the artistic, cultural and heritage character of the area. 4.3 The Advancement of Education • To advance public understanding of the historical, architectural, cultural, environmental and maritime heritage of Seatown and Gardenstown. • To promote talks, publications, exhibitions, guided walks and the creation of educational resources. • To encourage learning and participation in matters affecting the local environment, heritage and community. 4.4 The Advancement of Community Development and Resilience • To promote community development and active citizenship. • To encourage participation in projects and activities that strengthen community spirit, civic pride and local engagement. • To support initiatives that enhance community wellbeing, environmental resilience and stewardship of the area's natural and built environment. • To facilitate collaboration between community organisations, public bodies, professional advisers and other stakeholders in pursuit of the organisation's charitable purposes.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
