5.2 The purposes of the SCIO are: 5.2.1 To undertake and promote the advancement of environmental protection or improvement by: 5.2.1.1 targeting areas that have limited access by land; 5.2.1.2 creating a network to remove marine litter from the Scottish Islands to the mainland for recycling; and 5.2.1.3 working collaboratively with other organisations to create a marketplace for marine plastic and create a self-sustaining circular economy. 5.2.2 To undertake and promote the advancement of education by:- 5.2.2.1 providing workshops for schools and youth groups; 5.2.2.2 raising awareness of the issue of marine litter and encouraging long term behavioural change; 5.2.2.3 highlight the connection between the health of the marine environment and human health; and 5.2.2.4 creating an interactive resource showing community group and event locations. 5.2.3 To promote the advancement of citizenship or community development by:- 5.2.3.1 providing voluntary opportunities; 5.2.3.2 building a network of local community groups to share resources and best practices; and 5.2.3.3 establishing partnerships between voluntary groups and business to provide collaborative solutions to marine litter issues. 5.2.4 To provide the provision of recreation facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended by working with organisations such as the Ocean Youth Trust to provide opportunities for youth organisations and underprivileged youngsters to take part in beach cleans and learn in the marine environment.

From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:
