3.1 The Charitable Purposes of the SCIO ("the Charitable Purposes") are to advance education, heritage and culture by: 3.1.1 promoting and encouraging an interest in the study of the archaeology, history, antiquities, folk-lore and natural history particularly concerning the Breadalbane and Upper Tay area of Perthshire ("the Area"); 3.1.2 preserving, conserving, understanding and interpreting, within the national context, the historical and cultural heritage of the Area; 3.1.3 providing a community resource through the collection, classification and conservation of items of local historical interest; and 3.1.4 promoting and advancing heritage in the Area as a source of pride and to address heritage issues affecting the area.

What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:

Our charitable purposes are to advance education, heritage and culture by: promoting and encouraging an interest in the study of the archaeology, history, antiquities, folklore and natural history particularly concerning the Breadalbane and Upper Tay area of Perthshire; preserving, conserving, understanding and interpreting the historical and cultural heritage of the area; providing a community resource through the collection classification and conservation of items of local historical interest; promoting and advancing heritage in the area. We do this through: holding monthly meetings during the winter months on topics related to our interest areas; organising outings to local places of interest and longer residential trips; offering assistance with family history research; supporting local history projects in the local school; maintaining an archive available to our members and to members of the public; supporting other local groups with heritage-related projects.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry.
