4.1 The advancement of the heritage, language, culture, arts, through the provision of exhibitions, events, facilities and other services relating to the historical, geographical and cultural importance of the Isle of Scalpay and the creation of a dedicated heritage centre and archive; 4.1.1 to bring together, hold, adequately house, conserve and document a collection of specimens being of historical, artistic or scientific importance, and in respect of which there will be a strong presumption against the subsequent disposal of any item. 4.1.2 to adopt a written collecting policy and review it at least every five years, which policy shall define the types of specimens which the Society wishes to include in the collection and the geographical area from which such specimens may be drawn; 4.1.3 to maintain an accurate and current register of all specimens acquired for, or removed from the collection 4.2 The advancement of education providing a better understanding of the built and natural environment, culture, heritage and history of the Isle of Scalpay as well as the development of individual skills, capabilities and understanding; 4.3 The provision of recreational and social facilities and activities to improve the lives of the inhabitants of the area and the public in general through the provision of a heritage centre;

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
