The SCIO's purposes are to benefit the community of Dalkeith, which comprises the area defined by the boundaries of 'Dalkeith and District Community Council ' and 'Eskbank and Newbattle Community Council' ("the Community") with the following objects: 4.1 The advancement of community development (including the advancement of urban regeneration) within the Community; 4.2 The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended; 4.3 The advancement of environmental protection or improvement; 4.4 The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science; But only to the extent that the above purposes are consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development.

What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
One Dalkeith was established to provide a focus for community engagement and development by providing recreational facilities and activities, by providing facilities for local start-ups to operate and to provide an outlet for local makers to display and sell their products. We also engage in activities to protect and preserve our environment and to foster and encourage arts and crafts in the community, while preserving our heritage and culture. In the past year we have done this by organising craft workshops (such as sewing club, cake decorating, woodworking and a Supper Club and various Community Connection events). We are active members of the Midlothian Climate Action group and hosts for Dalkeith Mens Shed. We run regular "Cinema Nights" and also historical walking tours of Dalkeith.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
