Object:
(a) providing financial and other support to Think Tanks, Institutes and other organisations based in Scotland and in other countries, by providing funding and resources to conduct projects and publish research, the outcomes of which achieve and further charitable purposes only, and shall be focussed on agreed topical matters relating to the devolved powers, policies (existing and proposed) and proposals of the Scottish Government to promote the education of, and advance the general public's knowledge of, these matters; (b) advancing public education on the operation of devolved powers, policies and proposals of the Scottish Government, and increasing public engagement by enhancing the quality of public debate on such topics by facilitating the publication of rigorously researched papers; and to provide a framework to properly scrutinise policies and proposals in order to inform the choices of, and protect the interests of, the people of Scotland; and (c) promoting similar charitable purposes or charitable institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees shall think fit. In exercising their discretion in terms of this Clause the Trustees shall give primary consideration to the wishes of those persons who gift or lend funds to the Trust but this proviso shall impose no binding obligation on the Trustees.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
