The SCIO will promote, advance and further its charitable purposes by operating as a "grant giving" charity which will support financially and otherwise charities, community groups and others (such beneficiaries principally but not limited to be found in Scotland) which charitably further the purposes detailed at 7.2 and provide public benefit with a primary (but not exclusive) focus on (a) the provision of education for children, young people and adults from low income backgrounds, (b) the support of organisations which help children, young people and their families deal with a wide range of health related issues and (c) provision of sport, leisure and wellbeing programs that work with children and young people from low socio-economic backgrounds. 7.2 For the purposes of the 2005 Act the following charitable purposes are (i) particularly relevant and (ii) are the charitable purposes identified as applicable from section 7 of the 2005 Act:- 7.2.1 the advancement of education; 7.2.2 the advancement of health; 7.2.3 the advancement of public participation in sport; and 7.2.4 the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From January 2026, OSCR will begin publishing annual reports and accounts in full online once they are received. This marks a change from the current approach, where OSCR publishes accounts for certain charities, depending on their legal form and income, with personal details redacted.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
