Operations:
What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
Orkney Foodbank's purpose is to provide emergency food parcels to people in Orkney who are experiencing financial crisis and who cannot afford basic essentials, especially food. We offer compassionate, non-judgmental support to all our clients and our aim is to help them address the underlying issues they are facing, not just to provide food. Clients are referred by various professionals. We then provide a parcel containing at least three days worth of nutritionally balanced food. The food is donated by the public and we also receive numerous cash donations which allow us to buy additional food. A dedicated team of around 20 volunteers helps to sort and pack the parcels for our clients. We are also fortunate to have a Food Resilience & Support Worker who can offer information on local support services, as well as guidance on benefits etc through partner services. We believe it is helpful to provide a listening ear, enabling us to identify where further support may be needed.

*OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees and its principal office address as part of the charity’s Scottish Charity Register entry. They are also required to publish the annual report and accounts for each charity, including the names of some individuals. The only exceptions to this are where a charity or one of its trustees applies for this information to be excluded from the Register entry and where OSCR is satisfied that if it were published then the safety or security of a person or premises would be jeopardised.
