3. Purposes of the Trust The Trustees shall hold the Trust Fund and the income of it to pay and apply the same to or for the benefit of or in furtherance of the following purposes:- (a) the advancement of education, in particular (but without limitation) by supporting and providing children and others in education with training and development courses in order to further their education and careers, with a particular focus on young people; (b) the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or any other disadvantage and the prevention or relief of poverty, in particular (but without limitation) by the provision of financial support to children and young people in need; (c) the advancement of health, in particular (but without limitation) by the provision of support targeted at treating mental and emotional ill health, particularly of young children; (d) the advancement of the arts, heritage, or culture, in particular (but without limitation) by the provision of support to projects which foster local culture and support the preservation of activities which are distinctive and part of local history or tradition; and (e) the promotion of such similar or other activities as shall further charitable purposes, in such proportions and manner as the Trustees shall think fit. In exercising their discretion in terms of this Clause the Trustees shall give primary consideration to the wishes of those persons who gift or lend funds to the Trust but this proviso shall impose no binding obligation on the Trustees.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

From 30 June 2025, OSCR began collecting charity trustee information through OSCR Online. Providing this information is a legal requirement for all charities. Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
