2.1 To preserve, for the benefit of the general public, the historical, architectural and constructional heritage that may exist in Stonehaven and within the AB39 Postcode area ("the Operating Area") in buildings and land (including any structure or erection, and any part of a building as so defined) of particular beauty or historical, architectural or constructional interest. 2.2 To promote the benefit of the people of the operating area including visitors to the area without distinction on grounds of race, sex, sexuality, political, religious or other opinions by associating with the local statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and improve health and to provide facilities, or assist in the provision of facilities, in the interest of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time occupation, following principles of sustainable development so that their conditions of life may be improved, where "sustainable development" means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 2.3 To advance the education of the general public and to further any other purpose which may be charitable which relates to the preparation, establishment, maintenance, operation and development of radio and/or television programmes and broadcasting, museums, art galleries (which are either public or from which the public benefit) and related services and activities with special emphasis on the development of radio and television equipment, services, satellite and internet communications and operations and the lives and work of scientists, engineers and others including Baron John Reith first director general of the BBC who was born in Stonehaven. 2.4 To promote, maintain, improve and encourage for the education of the public, the development of the whole range of arts activity in the Operating Area including painting, sketching, singing, story

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From January 2026, OSCR will begin publishing annual reports and accounts in full online once they are received. This marks a change from the current approach, where OSCR publishes accounts for certain charities, depending on their legal form and income, with personal details redacted.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.
