To relieve those in need by reason of their age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship, social exclusion or other disadvantage by increasing the availability of, and facilitating access to, legal advice, assistance and representation primarily to individuals living and working in the north of Glasgow and its environs ("the Operating Area"); To prevent or relieve poverty, to advance citizenship and community development and to advance human rights (where the advancement of human rights relates, in particular, to the promotion of the integrity of the person and the advancement of the right to respect for private and family life enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights), primarily in the Operating Area, by providing access to and information on the legal rights and responsibilities of individuals in such a way that enhances the ability of otherwise disadvantaged individuals to understand and pursue their rights; To advance education and to increase knowledge and awareness, primarily in the Operating Area, of legal rights and responsibilities in the field of social welfare law, including (without prejudice to that generality) legal rights and responsibilities relating to housing, social security, debt, consumer matters, equal opportunities, human rights, rights of victims of crimes or accidents, employment, children, social work and such other fields of which there is insufficient knowledge and awareness in the Operating Area, as shall be determined by the directors from time to time; To promote, establish, operate and/or support other similar projects and programmes which are in furtherance of charitable purposes for the benefit of the community within the Operating Area.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
