The Company is established to benefit the community of Kilfinan (as defined by the postcode unit PA21 and hereon in as "the Community") with the following Objects which are: 3.1 To manage community land and associated assets for the benefit of the Community and the public in general as an important part of the protection and sustainable development of Scotland's natural environment, where "sustainable devel~pment'~ means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 3.2 To promote, for the public benefit, rural regeneration, following principles of sustainable development (where 'sustainable development' means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs), in areas of social and economic deprivation within the Community 3.3 To advance the education of the Community about its environment, culture andlor history; and 3.4 Such other purposes ancillary thereto as may be necessary or desirable for the furtherance of the foregoing objects.

What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
KCFC was set up to manage Kilfinan Community Forest for the benefit of the entire community. It's many aims include sustainable forestry management, provision of leisure and educational facilities, affordable workspaces to encourage local enterprise, woodland crofts and self-build house plots, forest products such as firewood for members of the community in fuel poverty and indoor and outdoor growing spaces for small-scale food production leased to a local group. Whilst larger projects are contracted out to local businesses, the vast majority are carried out by local volunteers. Funding for the charity comes primarily from renewable electricity generation and occasional timber harvests.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
