To promote, maintain, improve and advance education in the Arts and in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing music by Scottish and Scottish based composers of all periods (hereinafter referred to as "Scottish Music"). To promote the performance, study and documentation of Scottish Music at home and abroad through the establishment and maintenance of collections of scores, parts, recordings, books, periodicals, biographies and other relevant research and information, by making published and unpubIished music available for study and/or performance, by stimulating interest in the performance of Scottish Music and by promoting active use of available facilities and to co-operate with the Scottish Universities, the Scottish Arts Council and other interested bodies for the purposes of the foregoing objects. (iii) To provide study, library and rental facilities and reprographic, audio reproduction and information services to composers, performers, promoters, teachers, students and any interested members of the public and generally to provide consultancy and administrative services all in connection with the furtherance of the foregoing objects. (iv) To do all or any of the above things either alone or in conjunction with others and either as principals, agents, sub-contractors, trustees or otherwise and to enter into any anangements or schemes with others for the accomplishment of the objects of the Company and a11 or any of the above things. (v) To receive subscriptions, contributions and gifts (whether of heritable, moveable, real or personal property), legacies or bequests and to solicit and invite the provision of funds for all or any of the purposes of the Company and without prejudice to the foregoing to receive funds from governmental or other sources. (vi) Toundertakeandexecutemycharitabletrustswhichmaylawfullybeundertaken by the Company and may be conducive to the protection of its objects.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
