The Company's objects are:- (a) to contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and co-ordinated community service designed to meet the special needs of those affected by substance misuse problems, and to promote the development of facilities as required as an integral part of such as a service; (b) to contribute to increasing public knowledge of the extent of substance misuse, its damaging effects on the individual, the family, society and the economy, and to initiate and support action to combat the problem; (c) to contribute to the promotion of sevices and facilities, information, education, training and research in regard to the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of substance misuse problems, without advocating or specifying any particular method of treatment.
Operations:
What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
The Charity is set up to deliver a range of community based services to residents within Dumfries and Galloway affected by alcohol and other drugs issues. We also support people with gambling problems, and have an outreach housing support service for homeless people / people at risk of homelessness, irrespective of whether or not they have an alcohol or other drugs issue. The Charity holds two contracts with Dumfries and Galloway Health Board - Talking Therapies, and the Being There Family Support Service [to support adults over 18 affected by a loved one's alcohol / drugs problems. The Charity also holds a contract with Dumfries and Galloway Council to provide an Outreach Housing Support Service to adults 25 years who are homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
