The Trustees shall hold the Trust Fund and the Existing Collection In Trust (a) for the advancement of the education of the general public, without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions, by provision of the Museum comprising the Existing Collection together with such other objects, specimens or collections as may from time to time be acquired in accordance with the provisions of the Deed ('the Collection'), in respect of which there will be a strong presumption against the subsequent disposal of any specimen; (b) to provide for the protection of the specimens comprised in the Collection from deterioration, damage, loss, accidental destruction or unauthorised disposal; (c) to form, establish and support and to aid in the formation, establishment and support of any other charitable companies, institutions, associations, trusts or societies formed for objects similar to the objects set out above.
Operations:
What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
Dollar Museum Trust was set up for the education of the general public by providing a physical museum for the storage, care, protection, display and interpretation of a collection of artefacts and archives relating to Dollar and its environs. The Museum has a range of permanent and temporary exhibitions and a reading/research room and is open every weekend between Easter and Christmas and at other times for special pre-booked visits. Educational visits are encouraged and received from local schools and other community groups, as well as individual researchers and pupils gaining project experience for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Museum website is updated regularly and gives much information for 'virtual' visitors. New exhibitions and developments are researched and undertaken by Trustees and volunteers from the Friends of Dollar Museum, who also arrange a variety of activities to raise funds for the maintenance of the Museum and to safeguard its future development.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
