To promote the welfare and relieve persons in need of spiritual, emotional and psychological support by the provision of counseling and to manage and maintain a resource centre to provide training for those in counselling. In furtherance thereof but not othewise the Charis Foundation shall seek; (a) To provide a Counselling Service to those who self refer or individuals referred by agencies or churches. (b) To provide pastoral care and spiritual direction to those who self refer or individuals referred by agencies or churches (c) To provide training, education and supervision for those working in the caring professions and within local communities of faith. (d) To promote opportunities for networking and consultancy in the community. (e) To provide retreats and spiritual direction.

What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
Charis Foundation exists to provide a counselling service to those in need, regardless of social status, race, religious or philosophical belief. Since January 2023, clients have been requested to make voluntary donations for each session, however, provision of the service remains free to those who are unable to make a financial contribution. The second aspect of the Charis Foundation is to provide CPCAB accredited counselling Training Levels 2, 3 & 4 - culminating in Charis Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. The third aspect of Charis Foundation is to offer Christian retreats designed to suit individual requirements. This aspect is in the process of being reinstated.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry. We are also required to publish each charity’s annual report and accounts as received from this date, which may include the names of certain individuals. The only exceptions to publication are where a charity or one of its charity trustees applies for this information to be excluded, and OSCR is satisfied that publishing it would jeopardise the safety or security of a person or premises.

If the charity trustee information on a Register entry appears blank, this may mean that an exemption applies or that the charity has not yet provided the required details to OSCR. Supplying this information will become mandatory as part of future annual submissions.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

The Scottish Charity Register contains key information about a charity’s operations and finances. This includes:

  • the names of a charity’s trustees (exemptions apply)
  • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
