The objects of the Day Centre are to provide aid, assistance and support for elderly persons residing within the environs of Pencaitland, where such provision is in the interests of social welfare, and is made with the object of improving the conditions of life of elderly persons within the earea of benefit by:- 1 promoting and running appropriate services both in the Day Centre and the community. 2 making representations on behalf of elderly people. 3 making available information to, for and on behalf of elderly people. 4 encouraging training for those working with elderly people. 5 bringing together representatives of statutory and voluntary organisations and individuals.
Operations:
What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
We are a group of volunteers who run a weekly lunch club for older adults over the age of 60 in Pencaitland and the surrounding area. We provide aid, assistance and support for our members and offer access to a healthy nutritious meal, exercise, a varied programme of entertainment, trips and activities, intergenerational contact and the opportunity to meet people and make friends. Our aim is to reduce social isolation, combat loneliness and support our most vulnerable elderly residents to take part in activities that they would not otherwise be able to access. We are seeking funding to allow us to continue to provide that service and to cover the costs of transport to and from the lunch club for those who are unable to travel unaided; rent of local hall as we have no fixed premises and food costs to cover the costs of lunch.
