The objects of the Society shall be promote and encourage the following objects by charitable means but not otherwise: 2.1 To complement, encourage, promote and assist by appropriate activities the work of New Lanark Association Ltd., New Lanark Conservation Trust and New Lanark Village Group, which are bodies recognised as charitable by the Inland Revenue, in their work of encouraging public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the area of New Lanark and its surroundings. 2.2. To assist with and promote the preservation development and improvement of aspects of general public amenity or interest associated with those social historical geographical and architectural features which have made New Lanark world famous. 2.3. To encourage high standards of design in architecture, planning and products in New Lanark and its environs. 2.4 To appoint representatives and delegates to any other bodies with whom the Friends of New Lanark may be concerned. 2.5. To pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, research, publishing, education, advertising, publicity and the promotion of schemes of a charitable nature.

What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
Friends of New Lanark is winding down its activities with a view to ceasing to operate as a support to Lanark Trust, as the role has changed. We have been in contact with OSCR to ensure that this process is carried out in the appropriate manner. As of this submission date, we are still operating as a registered charity in a small way.

From 09 March 2026, OSCR is required by law to publish the names of a charity’s trustees as part of its Scottish Charity Register entry.   • its annual report and full accounts, if submitted after 9 March 2026
    (Accounts submitted prior to 9 March 2026 will be redacted, or may not be published, depending on the charity’s income level or legal form.)

These changes are designed to improve transparency across the charity sector in Scotland.
