The Trustees shall hold and apply the Trust Fund and the income thereof for the benefit of the public in Scotland and elsewhere in accordance with the following purposes: 4.1 The advancement of health, to include the prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering. This can include supporting, encouraging and funding medical and related scientific research as well as study in such areas as the Trustees shall select at their sole discretion which can include cancer research and treatment; 4.2 The advancement of citizenship or community development; 4.3 The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science in all its various forms, as the Trustees shall determine in their sole discretion; 4.4 The provision of recreational facilities or the organisation of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended; 4.5 The advancement of environmental protection or improvement and in particular the protection, preservation and conservation of the natural environment, the conservation and protection of wildlife in general to include any specific plant and animal species, habitat, green spaces in any particular area including any areas of natural beauty and/or scientific interest and the sustainable development of natural resources; and 4.6 The relief of those who are in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or some other disadvantage. DECLARING THAT the Trust Fund can only be used to benefit such bodies that are a recognised charity with a registered charity number as the Trustees shall determine in their sole discretion.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
