Therefore we hereby declare that the Trust Estate as and when received by said Trustees shall be held and applied by them for the purpose of promoting the study of chess amongst persons under the age of Twenty one years of age in Scotland, who are or may be interested in chess (hereinafter called "young chess players") and in schools, colleges, universities and educational or other establishments in Scotland (hereinafter called "the educational establishments") with a view to the improvement of the minds of young chess players, the furthering of their general education and the development of the general education provided in the educational establishment and that in manner following, namely:- The whole income of the Trust Estate, and the capital as aftermentioned, shall be used and applied, paid and conveyed by said Trustees for charitable purposes in connection with the teaching, development and supervision of the playing of chess by young chess players and in the said educational establishments

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From January 2026, OSCR will begin publishing annual reports and accounts in full online once they are received. This marks a change from the current approach, where OSCR publishes accounts for certain charities, depending on their legal form and income, with personal details redacted.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.
