The relief of poverty, suffering and distress and the improvement and furtherance of health by the following means:- 1. Promoting links on a charitable, educational, medical and/or cultural basis between groups of people and individuals in the United Kingdom and their counterparts in the former Soviet Union, with particular emphasis being placed on contact between voluntary organisations within Scotland and in St Petersburg, Russia; 2. Responding to humanitarian disasters, either natural or manmade, by sending out appropriate humanitarian aid and expertise, and in particular to organise the collection and dispatch of medical and other supplies to areas where assistance is required; and to arrange for the training of Doctors and medical staff in methods used by, inter alia the Macmillan Nurses in treating cancer patients; 3. Providing the basis for exchanges of young people between Scotland and the former Soviet Union to expand the knowledge of each other’s culture, history, language, educational system and non-governmental organisations.
