3 Charitable Purposes 3.1 The charitable purposes of the SCIO ("the Charitable Purposes") are: - 3.1.1 To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving life chances and choices. 3.1.2 To promote social inclusion by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society. For the purpose of this clause ?socially excluded? means being excluded from society, or part of society, as a result of being a member of a socially and economically deprived community; 3.1.3 To advance community development by linking volunteers with community projects increasing opportunities for community participation and active citizenship through volunteering, education and training; 3.1.4 The provision of recreational activities through the promotion and organisation of community activities for the benefit of the community and the wider public; 3.1.5 The advancement of the environmental protection, education and improvement by promoting sustainable use of material goods and resources through repair, reuse, recycling, use of recycled products and use of surplus and leftover materials and reducing the carbon emissions linked to production and consumption by encouraging reuse and reduction of consumption; 3.1.6 The advancement of education within community settings.

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.
