The objects of the Association shall be: a) To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the island of Papay without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, by associating the local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. b) To secure the establishment of a community school/centre and other community facilities (hereinafter called "The Centre") and to co-operate with the local Statutory Authority in the maintenance and management of the Centre, for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent members in furtherance of the above objects or any of them.
Operations:
What the charity is set up to do and how it does this:
The PCA runs a community hall, which provides recreational and educational facilities for use by islanders and visitors. Facilities include a playpark, multi-gym, hall games, library, and clay pottery wheel. The PCA organises numerous events on Papa Westray, including community meals, community dances, concerts, workshops, films, and a major annual summer festival. Funds are raised every year for Children In Need, and sometimes for other charities.
