The Company’s object is to promote the benefit of the people of the Western Isles and in particular the residents of the area of Calanais i.e. for the purposes hereof defined as comprising the whole area of the crofting township of Calanais and by all or any of the following means:- (a) the promotion of education, including all forms of training for work and life skills; (b) the protection and enhancement of the natural heritage and environment; (c) the advancement of the arts, culture and heritage, including support for the Gaelic arts and the protection of buildings and sites of architectural or historic importance; (d) the provision and support of recreational activities for the community, especially for disadvantaged or vulnerable groups, such as young people or the disabled; (e) the enhancement of the facilities and interpretive material available to visitors to the ancient monument of the Standing Stones at Calanais, Isle of Lewis; (f) the provision and management of a Visitor Centre at Calanais, Isle of Lewis and to provide interpretive material in any medium in relation to the ancient monument there; (g) the promotion of the public interest in the ancient monument at Calanais, Isle of Lewis and in other ancient monuments throughout the Western Isles; (h) the protection, preservation and conservation of the ancient monument at Calanais, Isle of Lewis as far as possible from either any damage or erosion that might occur as a consequence of increased public interest in the monument.

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.
