The Objects of the Company are to promote, so far as each is a charitable purpose, the well being of older people by: 3.1.1 working to prevent or relieve poverty among older people; 3.1.2 advancing education; 3.1.3 working to prevent or relieve sickness, disease or suffering in older people (whether emotional, mental or physical); 3.1.4 promoting equality and diversity; 3.1.5 promoting the human rights of older people; 3.1.6 assisting older people in need by reason of ill-health, disability, financial hardship, or other disadvantage; 3.1.7 pursuing such other charitable purposes for the benefit of older people as the Trustees may from time to time decide and for the purposes of this clause: (1) the expression "older people" shall be interpreted by the Trustees so as to ensure that the assets of the Company are applied for charitable purposes only and in accordance with any guidance issued by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator from time to time; and (2) "charitable purpose" shall mean a charitable purpose under Section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 which is also regarded as a charitable purpose in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts.

Charity accounts and constitution – what information do we publish?

From April 2016 we began to publish charities’ accounts, initially for those charities with an annual income of £25,000 or more, and for all SCIOs.

When a charity publishes its accounts on its website and has supplied us with a link, we have made this available. From late 2017, where the charity is a company, a registered social landlord or is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, a link is provided to the relevant regulator’s website where the accounts are made available. We accept no responsibility for the functionality, accuracy, or content of external websites – if you experience a technical issue with an external link, you should contact the charity directly.

You have the right to the following information under section 23 (1)(a) and (b) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, from the charity direct:

  • a copy of the charity’s latest statement of accounts
  • a copy of the charity’s constitution.

In addition to the above, a charity may also be able to provide you with previous years’ accounts and constitutions, although it is not obliged to do so. You can contact the charity to request this information using the contact details on the charity’s Register entry.
