The Charity and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act sets out 15 charitable purposes and one analogous purpose. Charities were asked to identify at least one charitable purpose which applied to their activities.

To apply as the council may from time to time determine, the funds set out in the benevolent fund account as at 31/12/95 and such additions as may be thereto (a) in affording relief to members of the association and their dependents who by reason of old age, infirmity, illness or distress of circumstances are in need of assistance; and (b) in aiding charitable or benevolent or educational purposes associated with Galloway.
