Scotland's fundraising standards Panel has new Chair

Valerie Surgenor has been appointed as the new Chair of the Scottish Fundraising Standards Panel. She takes over from Alison Elliot who stepped down at the quarterly Panel meeting which took place on 30 January 2018, and Val was unanimously elected as Chair by the Panel at the same meeting.

The Scottish Fundraising Standards Panel is the registered trading name of The Independent Fundraising Standards & Adjudication Panel for Scotland. The Panel’s core functions are to oversee fundraising standards and adjudicate on fundraising complaints in relation to Scottish registered charities.

Val has been a member of the Panel during its first year, and prior to that chaired the Implementation Group tasked with establishment of the Panel. A partner at MacRoberts LLP, where she heads up the firm’s Charities and Third Sector Practice and specialises in data protection, technology and intellectual property law, Val is also Chair of the board of Aberlour Child Care Trust and prior to becoming a solicitor she worked for over 12 years in the Third Sector in the area of longer term homelessness and addictions. 

The Panel have also announced the appointment of Kirsty Connell-Skinner, Katie Bruce, Matthew Middler and John Downie as new members.
