Publicise your charitable status by using the registration logo

30 Jun 2017

New personalised logo for Scottish charities

The Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) is supporting Scottish charities publicise their charitable status by providing them with a personalised registration logo.

Everyone running a charity should be aware of the legal requirement to promote charitable status to the public. This is set out in section 15 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and explained in the guidance on our website.

To help charities do this in a clear and consistent way, OSCR has produced a charity registration logo that can be downloaded free of charge and used on a charity's website, email signatures and publications, including hard copy. Every logo contains the individual Scottish charity’s number on it.

To download it, all a charity has to do is visit their entry on the Scottish Charity Register at www.oscr.org.uk and click on the link next to ‘OSCR Registration Logo’, which is at the bottom of the first grey box on the entry. The logo is held on our website, not on OSCR Online. We have also produced guidelines that explain how it should be used.

The logo can be found on your charity's register entry. You can find this by going to
www.oscr.org.uk and using the register search on the homepage.

This updated logo replaces the one released in February 2016 - which was intended for electronic use only. The feedback showed that organisations wanted a logo that could be used on printed materials and contained their own charity number. This latest version comes in a variety of formats, so charitable status can be highlighted on a range of items.

OSCR Head of Engagement Jude Turbyne said,

“Aside from the legal requirement, it is good practice and good sense to show the public that an organisation is a charity. It demonstrates transparency, encourages goodwill, inspires public trust and confidence and, hopefully, encourages more donations.

“This free resource will allow Scottish Charities to do just that. We’ve made the process of downloading a charity’s registration logo simple and straightforward, so please get yours today.

“Please spread the word to other charity colleagues.  We want as many charities to know about this resource as possible”
