Brexit

There is now a transition period until the end of 2020 while the UK and EU negotiate additional arrangements.

The current rules on trade, travel, and business for the UK and EU will continue to apply during the transition period.

New rules will take effect on 1 January 2021.

Leaving the EU, commonly known as 'Brexit', means a number of changes that will affect businesses and individual citizens. There are still unknowns regarding Brexit, but charities should prepare themselves for any changes that may affect them.

Here are some places where charity trustees can find useful information:

 

Although many charities operate solely in Scotland, and do not rely on international data flows, there is a concern that those who (for example, those that use cloud storage or online services to process personal data and may be making transfers to data centres outside the UK) do not have safeguards in place to ensure that personal data can continue to flow from the EU back into their organisation. However, this only applies if there is a no deal; the UK Government's priority is still to leave the EU with a deal. The ICO link provides further advice on this scenario.
