It is currently planned that the United Kingdom will soon leave the European Union (EU). This event is commonly known as 'Brexit'.

Although many charities operate solely in Scotland, and do not rely on international data flows, there is a concern concerned those that those they do (for example, those that use cloud storage or online services to process personal data and may be making transfers to data centres outside the UK) do not have safeguards in place to ensure that personal data can continue to flow from the EU back into their organisation. However, this only applies if there is a no deal; the UK Government's priority is still to leave the EU with a deal. The ICO link provides further advice on this scenario.
