Information on how to search the online Scottish Charity Register.

You can search for a Scottish registered charity by:

Charity name, number and objects

Name: you can search by using word(s) in a charity's name. This search is a keyword search, meaning the results will include all the words identified, although not necessarily in the order specified.

Number: each recognised Scottish charity has been issued with a six-digit reference number with the prefix SC (i.e. SCxxxxxx). Enter the six digit number with or without the 'SC' to find a charity.  Please ensure that you enter '0' (zero) and not 'O' immediately after SC where you use these initial letters.

Object keywords: This is a keyword search, meaning the results will include all the words identified, although not necessarily in the order specified.

Local authority

You can search for a charity if you know the local authority area in which it is located.

Income range

Insert lower and upper income limits.

Charitable purposes

Choose one or more of the charitable purposes listed.

Defaulting charities

Select this if you wish to search for records of defaulting charities.

Ceased charities

Select this if you wish to search for records of ceased charities.

Results

The result returned will either be:

  • a comprehensive list of all charities that match the criteria stipulated in the search
  • no charities matching your criteria were found.

Click on the charity name to access the information held for the charity.
