Freedom of Information (FOI)
Introduction
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 ("the Act") came into force on 1 January 2005. It has introduced important new rights for you to access information held by Scottish public authorities such as OSCR. Anyone who requests information held by a Scottish public authority is now entitled to receive it, unless that information is subject to any exemptions contained in the Act.
OSCR and Freedom of Information
OSCR is required to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme. The Publication Scheme lists:
- the classes of information which OSCR publishes or intends to publish
- the manner in which information within each class is, or is intended to be published
- whether the material is, or is intended to be, available free of charge or on payment.

Making a request for information
You must put your request in writing or any other recordable form that can be kept for future use. You do not need to give any reasons for making your request or say that you are using your rights under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
If there is not enough detail in your request for OSCR to identify the information you want, or if your request is not clear to us, we will ask you to give us more detail.
