Charity Regulators Sign Agreement
01 June 2007
OSCR and the Charity Commission have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to minimise dual regulation and ensure a consistent approach where possible.
Read the OSCR and Charity Commission Memorandum of Understanding here.
The updated MOU is evidence of the ongoing working relationship between the two regulators and, says OSCR's Chief Executive, Jane Ryder, paves the way for a continued positive working relationship within a modern regulatory framework.
'We have been working successfully with the Charity Commission and today's news builds on that relationship,' she said. 'Co-operation is vital in reinforcing a seamless regulatory regime that does not impose unnecessary burdens on charities operating in both jurisdictions,' she said.
Chief Executive of the Charity Commission, Andrew Hind, said: 'We have put a high priority on working in close co-operation with OSCR and are committed to building on that relationship'.
The aims of the MOU are to:
* Minimise the burden of regulation for those charities operating right across England, Scotland and Wales
* Consult and co-ordinate interpretation and application of the relevant law and policy
* Share information and collaborate where a common regulatory approach is required;
* Pave the way for future co-operation, as charity law develops.
