OSCR’s Chief Executive, Jane Ryder, said:
‘The risk of fraud is not unique to charities, and our experience is that fraud in Scottish charities is rare. But the nature of the relationship which charities have with the public makes the prevention and detection of fraud particularly important.
'We aim to balance charities’ own responsibilities with our role as regulator. We will focus on prevention through education and intelligence, without ignoring the importance of swift and appropriate action where necessary.’
OSCR’s Anti Fraud Strategy sets out:
- OSCR’s risk-based approach
- Issues of fundraising, and doorstep collections
- OSCR’s intelligence gathering and monitoring
- OSCR’s intervention and work with other agencies.
